Teen Related to Serial Killer Admits Murder

Notorious Australian serial killer, Ivan Milat
A teenage relative of notorious Australian serial killer, Ivan Milat has been convicted of axing a friend to death.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, left the body in the same forest where his infamous relative killed seven backpackers, reports Sky News.

He pleaded guilty at western Sydney's Campbeltown Children's Court to killing David Auchterlonie, 17.

David's battered body was found last year in the remote Belanglo State Forest, southwest of Sydney.

According to court documents, the teen bragged to his friends a day after the murder, saying: "I killed somebody last night."

In court papers, officials said the youngster, his victim and two friends drove to the forest on the night of November 20, 2010.

One member of the group filmed the group talking and then the killing on their mobile phone.

The video shows David rolling a joint in the front seat before his killer, standing by the boot of the car, calls out to him.

David leaves the car and goes to join him but as he arrives at the boot he is struck by an axe in the torso.

According to court papers, he had accused the teenager of telling people he had stolen money from his own mother.

David tried to run away but the teenager chased him down and forced him to lie on the ground.

He continued to accuse his victim of spreading rumours and then struck him on the back of the head with the axe.

The sound of it hitting the victim and his last breath could be heard on the video recording, according to the documents.

The killer and one of his friends covered the body with branches before all three left the forest in the car.

David's father, whose name is also David Auchterlonie, said his son was "a character" who was always getting into trouble.

He was "just a general teenager doing what silly kids do," he said outside court.

"It's been nearly a year since his death. I'm sure he would have grown out of his ways and maybe these kids as well."

The killer will be sentenced on December 2 and faces up to life in prison.

His relative, Milat, is serving a life sentence for the string of murders between 1989 and 1992.

He buried his victims in shallow graves in the Belanglo forest, the same place where his relative later struck.
