How mother and daughter had group sex with men for money

Jessica and Monica
A mother and daughter in Tampa, Fla., have a unique way of expressing family togetherness -- by creating a pornography site and shooting sex scenes together.
Jessica and Monica

The duo -- known collectively as "The Sexxxtons" -- like many porn performers, don't give out their last names. Jessica, the mom, and Monica, the daughter, have been creating kinky content for their self-titled website for the past year and have just released a DVD.

In order to confirm the Sexxxtons are really related and not just claiming that as a marketing gimmick, The Huffington Post reviewed both women's driver's licenses, and their private Facebook pages, as well as private family photos going back 20 years.

Although mother and daughter have sex in the same room at the same time -- often with the same male or female partner -- they insist that their encounters are not incestuous. For legal and personal reasons, they don't actually touch each other during sex scenes.

"We don't have a problem doing two-on-one," Jessica, 56, explained to The Huffington Post. "We will have sex with one man, but not interact with each other."

Monica, 22, said the kinky choreography is a lot more difficult than her mom makes it sound.

"It's not easy to do," she told HuffPost. "Our lips never touch and that can be a problem when filming."

Those precautions, the Sexxxtons said, are what keeps their scenes from legally being incestuous, even if experts like Beverly Hills-based psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman, who has never treated the Sexxxtons, considers their activities to be "emotional incest."Monica acknowledges the mother-daughter porn is enjoyable. "I enjoy the sex and I enjoy being with my mom," she said. "During the scenes, I think about how we're going to be filthy rich."

Money was a factor in deciding to start the family business. Three years ago, Monica said the family -- including her younger brother -- were about to get evicted from their home. She looked at her options, and decided to become a dancer and also get into porn.

"I've always been an exhibitionist and sex just oozed out of me," she said, adding that she lost her virginity at the age of 12. "It was my idea. I dropped out of school in ninth grade and figured this was a good way to earn money."

Monica worked as a dancer and got her mom into doing porn first before she did it herself. Jessica agreed to her daughter's suggestion, saying they've always been open with each other.

"The money was part of the reason, but so was fun, and having sex with hot guys," Jessica said, adding that she prefers her new job to her old career, bartending, for one simple reason: "You don't have to get dressed to go to work."

For the most part, the Sexxxtons only have sex in the same room when on camera, but Jessica said they did do a threesome with one of her boyfriends one night. "We were talking about sex and it happened. We all had a good time," she said.

Monica has no plans to have a child of her own, but she and Jessica agree that if she had a child who wanted to go into the family business at a legal age, they'd allow it.

There are limits though: No animals and Monica doesn't want to film scenes with her younger brother. "He's a virgin and I don't want his first sex experience to be with someone who is just doing it for money and isn't into him," she said.

Family-oriented porn can be a fairly common fantasy scenario, but it is rare to have real family members work together in scenes.

In 1998, "Three Brothers," a gay porn film, featured three real-life brothers, Vince, Shane and Hal Rockland, in a sex scene with an unrelated male but they didn't have sex with each other.

In addition, the Milton twins, Cali Marie and Cherish, have done scenes together since 2004, usually not touching. In 2008, porn star Elli Foxx filmed a scene with her mother, Desi, for a film called "Wanna F*** My Daughter Gotta F*** Me First 2."

According to an interview they did with Howard Stern, they made sure to stay 10 feet apart while filming.

Monica may see filming sex scenes with her mother as a ticket to the big time, but adult film historian Bill Margold doubts they will be able to parlay their notoriety to mainstream porn.

"The adult industry is not that stupid," Margold told HuffPost. "They have enough problems without creating on-camera incest."

Boko Haram: 1,000 Nigerians flee to Republic of Niger after attack

More than 1,000 Nigerians have fled to neighbouring Niger after six people were killed in an attack on their village blamed on Islamist group Boko Haram, the United Nations said Thursday.

The 1,042 refugees crossed the northern border into the Niger region of Diffa after the November 30 attack, and have been taken in by families in two villages near the regional capital, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a bulletin.

A teacher in the village confirmed the attack to local media. He said the attackers told villagers they were looking for “politicians” and “coldly killed” six people, including a police officer, after the victims were unable to recite verses of the Koran.

A security source said Niger’s army has deployed reinforcements along its border with Nigeria, a focus of worry for Nigerien authorities who have often assured they are taking measures to stop Boko Haram’s activities from spilling over into Niger.

Violence linked to the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria — a country roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and a predominantly Christian south — is believed to have left some 3,000 people dead there since 2009, including killings by the security forces.

Washington commences issuing of same-sex marriage licenses

Pete-e Petersen (left), 85, and Jane Abbott Lighty, 77, have been a couple for 35 years

Shortly after the clock struck midnight, two Seattle women legitimized their 35-year love affair early Thursday by becoming the first same-sex couple to receive a marriage license in King County, Washington.

The two women met on a blind date in 1977, when homosexuality was highly taboo and gay people socialized privately in homes, never in public.

Now Pete-e Petersen is 85, and Jane Abbott Lighty is 77, and they have lived to see the world transformed.

In the twilight of their lives, they thought they would die without being legally married, though they had a church wedding in 2005. But Washington voters approved Referendum 74, legalizing same-sex marriage, last month, allowing the first licenses to be issued on Thursday.

"Oh, my goodness!" Lighty said. "We've been together 35 years and seen all kinds of change."It's been a long journey," Petersen said. "We're so excited to know we'll get a license and then get married on Sunday."

Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire and Secretary of State Sam Reed certified Referendum 74 on Wednesday, surrounded by the marriage equality bill's supporters.

"This is a very important and historic day in the great state of Washington. For many years now, we've said, 'One more step. One more step.' This is our last step," Gregoire said. "To the couples that are here today that will finally be treated with the equality they've deserved for many years, congratulations to each of you."

This year has been historic on many levels for the marriage equality movement.

High court takes no action yet on same-sex marriage appeals

After years of saying no at the ballot box, American voters for the first time said yes to same-sex marriage this fall in Washington, Maryland and Maine. Voters in Minnesota rejected a measure that would have banned same-sex marriage.

Those approvals contrast with the 38 states that have passed bans on marriages between people of the same sex, mostly by amending their constitutions to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

In six states -- Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York -- and the District of Columbia, gays and lesbians have previously won marriage rights because of actions taken by judges or legislators, not voters.

A milestone also occurred this year in the nation's executive branch: President Barack Obama became the first president to openly support same-sex marriage.

These political trends emerged as a majority of Americans say they support legally recognizing same-sex marriage at a time when the public demonstrates increasing comfort with gays and lesbians, according to a CNN/ORC International survey in June.

With 162 years between them, Petersen and Lighty can recall the dark days of being gay in America.

Smokers in Washignton celebrate as govt. legalizes marijuana

The crowds of happy people lighting joints under Seattle's Space Needle early Thursday morning with nary a police officer in sight bespoke the new reality: Marijuana is legal under Washington state law.

Hundreds gathered at Seattle Center for a New Year's Eve-style countdown to 12 a.m., when the legalization measure passed by voters last month took effect. When the clock struck, they cheered and sparked up in unison.

A few dozen people gathered on a sidewalk outside the north Seattle headquarters of the annual Hempfest celebration and did the same, offering joints to reporters and blowing smoke into television news cameras.

"I feel like a kid in a candy store!" shouted Hempfest volunteer Darby Hageman. "It's all becoming real now!"

Washington and Colorado became the first states to vote to decriminalize and regulate the possession of an ounce or less of marijuana by adults over 21. Both measures call for setting up state licensing schemes for pot growers, processors and retail stores. Colorado's law is set to take effect by Jan. 5.

Technically, Washington's new marijuana law still forbids smoking pot in public, which remains punishable by a fine, like drinking in public. But pot fans wanted a party, and Seattle police weren't about to write them any tickets.

In another sweeping change for Washington, Gov. Chris Gregoire on Wednesday signed into law a measure that legalizes same-sex marriage. The state joins several others that allow gay and lesbian couples to wed.

The mood was festive in Seattle as dozens of gay and lesbian couples got in line to pick up marriage licenses at the King County auditor's office early Thursday.

King County and Thurston County announced they would open their auditors' offices shortly after midnight Wednesday to accommodate those who wanted to be among the first to get their licenses.

Kelly Middleton and her partner Amanda Dollente got in line at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Hours later, as the line grew, volunteers distributed roses and a group of men and women serenaded the waiting line to the tune of "Going to the Chapel."

Because the state has a three-day waiting period, the earliest that weddings can take place is Sunday.

In dealing with marijuana, the Seattle Police Department told its 1,300 officers on Wednesday, just before legalization took hold, that until further notice they shall not issue citations for public marijuana use.

Officers will be advising people not to smoke in public, police spokesman Jonah Spangenthal-Lee wrote on the SPD Blotter. "The police department believes that, under state law, you may responsibly get baked, order some pizzas and enjoy a 'Lord of the Rings' marathon in the privacy of your own home, if you want to."

He offered a catchy new directive referring to the film The Big Lebowski, popular with many marijuana fans: "The Dude abides, and says 'take it inside!'"

"This is a big day because all our lives we've been living under the iron curtain of prohibition," said Hempfest director Vivian McPeak. "The whole world sees that prohibition just took a body blow."

Washington's new law decriminalizes possession of up to an ounce for those over 21, but for now selling marijuana remains illegal. I-502 gives the state a year to come up with a system of state-licensed growers, processors and retail stores, with the marijuana taxed 25 percent at each stage. Analysts have estimated that a legal pot market could bring Washington hundreds of millions of dollars a year in new tax revenue for schools, health care and basic government functions.

But marijuana remains illegal under federal law. That means federal agents can still arrest people for it, and it's banned from federal properties, including military bases and national parks.

The Justice Department has not said whether it will sue to try to block the regulatory schemes in Washington and Colorado from taking effect.

"The department's responsibility to enforce the Controlled Substances Act remains unchanged," said a statement issued Wednesday by the Seattle U.S. attorney's office. "Neither states nor the executive branch can nullify a statute passed by Congress" — a non-issue, since the measures passed in Washington and Colorado don't "nullify" federal law, which federal agents remain free to enforce.

The legal question is whether the establishment of a regulated marijuana market would "frustrate the purpose" of the federal pot prohibition, and many constitutional law scholars say it very likely would.

That leaves the political question of whether the administration wants to try to block the regulatory system, even though it would remain legal to possess up to an ounce of marijuana.

Alison Holcomb is the drug policy director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington and served as the campaign manager for New Approach Washington, which led the legalization drive. She said the voters clearly showed they're done with marijuana prohibition.

"New Approach Washington sponsors and the ACLU look forward to working with state and federal officials and to ensure the law is fully and fairly implemented," she said.

Naked protesters disrupt final vote to uphold nudity ban in San Fransisco

A ban on nudity in San Francisco was given final approval by the city’s Board of Supervisors Tuesday in a raucous meeting at which several people stripped naked in board chambers.

The ordinance, which will prohibit nudity on city streets, sidewalks, plazas and other public spaces, was initially passed 6-5 during the board’s Nov. 20 meeting and was approved again Tuesday afternoon by the same vote.

Supervisor Jane Kim initially gave the legislation a seventh vote of support but later rescinded her vote, saying she had been distracted and accidentally voted yes.Supervisors John Avalos, David Campos, Eric Mar and Christina Olague were the other four supervisors to oppose the ban.

Several men and women stripped down after the first vote Tuesday afternoon and began yelling at the supervisors. They were led out of board chambers by sheriff’s deputies, who draped blankets over them since public nudity is not allowed at City Hall. One protester was taken into custody for resisting arrest, according to Christina DiEdoardo, the attorney representing the group of nudists.

Once the legislation is signed by Mayor Ed Lee, who has expressed support for it, it will take effect on Feb. 1.

It allows exceptions for street fairs, parades and other permitted public events and does not apply to children under 5 years old.Opponents of the ban have filed a lawsuit seeking to block the legislation on constitutional grounds, and that case is still pending in court.

Violators of the ordinance would face initial fines of $100 that would increase for additional offenses.

Judge shocked after defendant asks for marijuana in courtroom

Mitchell

A drug defendant stunned an Ohio court by asking if he could have one more joint while haggling over the period during which he would give up marijuana.

Damaine Mitchell, 19, wanted Hamilton County Common Pleas judge Melba Marsh to allow him a final indulgence before he attempted to refrain from using the drug - but she said no.

He was in court on Wednesday, charged with trafficking in marijuana - Mitchell is accused of selling it on June 12 in the car park of a Westwood shop.

Mitchell made no secret of his love of the drug - when the judge said she would offer him a deal which would stop him going to jail and would erase the crime from his record, in return for him giving up marijuana for a certain time period, he found it tough to accept.

'That’s going to be hard for me to do, to be honest with you,' said Mitchell.

The judge told him he had to stop taking the drug until April, when he would be drug tested to see if he had lived up to his end of the bargain.

'That’s going to be a challenge,' Mitchell argued. 'I like smoking weed. I have been smoking weed since I was like 10 years old.'

Marsh then began to shorten the period, asking if Mitchell would stop until Easter, even Valentine's Day. 'I won't want to,' replied the defendant.

Marijuana dealer donates proceeds to hurricane victims

A marijuana dealer in Brooklyn, N.Y., who donated half of his proceeds made over two days last week to victims of Hurricane Sandy told HuffPost Crime on the condition of anonymity, that he didn't care about the implications of turning drug money into supplies for victims in the Rockaways, N.Y., some of whom are still without power. He just wanted to help out, and raised $700 for the cause.

"Look, there are probably some people down there [in the Rockaways] who want some marijuana -- but that's not going to clothe and feed them," he said. "So in order for me to help, I needed to turn what I do into something concrete that I could give to them."

The college-educated weed dealer said he saw the devastation in Breezy Point -- where some 80 homes flooded and burned to the ground -- and decided it was time to make some green for the victims. He alerted his clientele last Monday that he would be donating, and the calls started coming in.

He's no Pablo Escobar, but the dealer claims he did make $1,400 in those two days, amounting to $700 that will go toward hot meals, diapers, formula, clean water and other supplies that people on the Rockaway Peninsula still desperately need. HuffPost crime confirmed that he bought 50 wool blankets that will likely go to residents who are still without power.

"Yes, I made a little extra money for myself those two days," he told HuffPost Crime. "But [my clients] are getting something they'd already get anyway. I was going to work regardless, and now I felt like I was doing it with purpose ... I'm not doing what I do in order to get rich or create some super marijuana empire. I'm trying to help, and this is my job."

When he's not operating Nuggets for the Needy, the Brooklyn dealer says he's been throwing on boots and helping to transport relief goods -- and not the THC kind -- around south Brooklyn and Queens.

Organizations such as Lava Girl Surf and Rockaway Beach Club have erected impromptu relief centers and are literally peddling much-needed items to affected areas. More than 1,000 volunteers helped clean out homes and deliver supplies over the weekend for those two organizations alone, according to Lava Girl Surf's Facebook page.

Meanwhile, residents of the Rockaway Peninsula are still suffering, some still without electricity and many looking for answers after Sandy and a subsequent Nor'easter destroyed their homes.

For those who'd like to help out in Sandy's aftermath, there are plenty of options. People across New York and New Jersey still need supplies, and The Huffington Post has compiled a list of drop-off centers and charities for anyone who wants to assist.

Court jails Reggae musician over Indian hemp

An Ado-Ekiti Federal High Court in South-Western Nigeria on Thursday, sentenced a reggae musician, Ademayowa Fabamise, to three months imprisonment for possession of Indian Hemp.

Justice Adamu Hobon sentenced the convict, who had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge, without an option of fine.

"I have carefully looked at the facts presented before me by the prosecution and the plea of guilt by the convict, I hereby find him guilty and convict him as charged," Hobon said.

Iliya Waji, the prosecutor, had earlier told the court that the convict conspired with one Babatunde Apanisi to deal in 150 grammes of Cannabis Sativa on September 1, 2012, at Ilesa Street, Oye-Ekiti, in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti.

The prosecutor tendered to the court a Certificate of Test Analysis, packing of substance form, a request for scientific gauge form, and a drug analysis report confirming the substance to be Indian Hemp.

He also tendered the confessional statement of the convict and a bulk of the substance concealed in a blue polythene bag. Waji said that the offence contravened Section14 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA) Act Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Layi Obisesan, the Counsel to the convict, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy. Obisesan said that the convict, a father to a three month-old baby, was honest to have admitted guilt

Arizona woman attempts killing husband for letting Obama win

Holly Solomon

An Arizona woman, in despair at the re-election of Democratic President Barack Obama, ran down her husband with the family car in suburban Phoenix on Saturday because he failed to vote in the election, police said on Monday.

Holly Solomon, 28, was arrested after running over husband Daniel Solomon following a wild chase that left him pinned underneath the vehicle.Daniel Solomon, 36, was in critical condition at a local hospital, but is expected to survive, Gilbert police spokesman Sergeant Jesse Sanger said.

Police said Daniel Solomon told them his wife became angry over his “lack of voter participation” in last Tuesday’s presidential election and believed her family would face hardship as a result of Obama winning another term.

Witnesses reported the argument broke out on Saturday morning in a parking lot and escalated. Mrs Solomon then chased her husband around the lot with the car, yelling at him as he tried to hide behind a light pole, police said. He was struck after attempting to flee to a nearby street.

Obama won the national election with 332 electoral votes compared with 206 for Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Arizona’s 11 electoral votes were won by Romney.

How 5-yr-old girl crashed an helicopter, killing five people on board

Sydney Stewart

A federal accident report says a billionaire food-services company owner let his 5-year-old daughter sit on his lap in his helicopter's co-pilot seat and she apparently caused a 2010 crash near Phoenix that killed five people by kicking the flight controls.

The National Transportation Safety Board investigated the crash that killed Services Group of America owner Thomas J. Stewart for nearly three years before releasing its report Wednesday.

The report says it's "highly likely" the little girl, Sydney, suddenly pushed down on a control and either Stewart or his company pilot then quickly pulled up. That made the rotor blades bend and strike the tail boom.

The conclusion is being disputed by the lawyer for the pilot's family and by Stewart's privately held company. SGA moved to Arizona from Seattle in 2006.

Catholic priest allegedly bites fellow priest's ear off during fight

Father Thomas Henry Byrne

It's a holy war!

An 80-year-old Catholic priest bit off another priest's ear and socked him in the face over a parking spot in Australia, according to Perth Now.

Father Thomas Henry Byrne appeared in court Friday after he allegedly started the violent brawl when 81-year-old Father Thomas Joseph Cameron Smith wouldn't give up his parking space. After a brief scuffle, Byrne reportedly told Smith to pick up an item on the ground.

The item was Smith's ear, according to the Daily Mail, though it took him a while to figure out what it was.

Smith wrapped the flesh in a tea towel and drove to a local hospital, where staffed phoned him an ambulance. He was taken to surgery, while cops went to arrest Byrne on a charge of grievous bodily harm. Byrne had a black eye when he showed up in court on Friday, according to the Independent.

An East Perth magistrate ordered that Byrne not go within 30 feet of Smith, who lives in the same apartment complex.

'Biblical' Virgin Mary sighted in Utah

Virgin Mary sightings hve been reported in Utah Utah, where a man claims he found the image of the Holy Mother and baby Jesus in a piece of wood.

Dean Hansen made the extraordinary discovery about six weeks ago when he and his uncle, Lee Taylor, were in central Utah cutting up pinyon pine wood for tent posts and firewood, KSTU-TV reported.

“When we first saw it, we were like ‘wow,’” Hansen told the station.

Hansen is keeping the 3-inch-thick circle in a safe place while he decides whether or not to put it on display.

Luckily, for true believers, there are still plenty of other sightings to check out, such as the one reported last month at one lucky New Jersey car wash where the Virgin Mother herself allegedly appeared in a cloud of smoke.

The blessed virgin also showed up in a tree trunk in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., this past summer as well as one in New York City.

Anti-Islam filmmaker, Nakoula Basseley jailed for one year

A US man behind an anti-Muslim film that led to mass protests in the Middle East has been sentenced to a year in jail for probation violations.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula was sentenced by a judge in California after admitting four violations which stem from a 2010 conviction for fraud.

None of the charges was connected with the content of the controversial film, Innocence of Muslims.

Dozens of people died in the Middle East in protests over the film.

US District Judge Christina Snyder said Nakoula, 55, must spend 12 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release.

Prosecutors had been seeking a two-year sentence.

After the 2010 conviction, Nakoula had served most of a 21-month jail sentence for using more than a dozen aliases and opening about 60 bank accounts to conduct a cheque fraud scheme, prosecutors said.

The Los Angeles Times said that it was while he was in prison that he read the Koran, looking for ways to criticise Islam.

On his release he was barred from using computers or the internet for five years without approval from his probation officer.

Nakoula, who was arrested in September, also goes by the name of Sam Bacile, Nicola Bacily and Mark Basseley Yousseff and is believed to be an Egyptian-American Coptic Christian.

US authorities have said they believe Nakoula was the person behind the controversial film, but have not said whether he was the person who posted it on the internet.

Muslims around the world took to the streets in protest, outraged by the film's portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad.

23yr-old man arrested for flashing his breast implants at fellow customers in a shopping plaza

Owens

A Pennsylvania man was arrested yesterday after flashing his breast implants at fellow Walmart shoppers.

Jeremy Owens, 23, was busted following the bizarre incident at the retailer in Lackawanna County. Owens was apprehended after he left the store and boarded a municipal bus, from which he had to be forcibly removed by cops.

After being cuffed and placed in a cruiser, Owens banged his head against the vehicle’s window, apparently cutting himself in the process. Which then allowed Owens (seen at right) to allegedly spit blood at officers.

Owens, who calls himself “Jamie,” was jailed for aggravated assault, drug possession, and making terroristic threats. But apparently not indecent exposure.

Yesterday’s collar came two weeks after Owens was busted for lying to cops about the purported knifepoint abduction of a female friend. Owens was also nabbed in March following a disturbance at a doughnut shop (he was accused of spitting on two female customers).

An in-home caregiver sexually assaulted a 106-year-old woman who was bedridden, according to Florida police.

Taquita Lashay Watson, 29, of Pensacola, was arrested at about 2 p.m. Monday after investigators learned she used "a sexual instrument" on the woman whom she'd been assigned to care for over the past three months, according to a Pensacola Police report.

Cops are investigating whether Watson victimized any other patients.

She has worked as a caretaker for eight years, The Smoking Gun reported. In another police report obtained by the site, the Oct. 26 crime is described in gruesome detail:

Watson allegedly "took a [sex toy] and a jar of Vaseline from her pocketbook ... pulled [the victim's] pants and diaper down and told her that this 'would make her feel good.'" She reportedly assaulted the woman despite her screams and pleas to stop.

The victim waited for days until Watson left and called police. She was given a sexual assault examination, which revealed that she had "obvious signs of trauma" to her vagina, according to the police report.

Watson charged with sexual assault and held in lieu of $25,000 bond.

UK government spends $16,000 on a dead snake

Britain's foreign office spent 10,000 pounds ($16,100) to re-stuff the corpse of a giant 120-year-old snake, at a time when government departments are being told to rein in spending.

In response to a freedom of information (FOI) request from political blog Guido Fawkes, the foreign office said the 20 foot anaconda — called Albert — had been in poor condition and required "essential maintenance".

"Albert the anaconda was allegedly presented by a bishop, in what is now Guyana, to the colonial secretary in the 19th century", the foreign office said.

The huge reptile hangs in a foreign office library and is regarded as a departmental asset in a country whose former empire once ruled over vast swathes of the planet.

A spokesman for the foreign office recoiled at the suggestion that reviving Albert's looks might not be essential work for a government whose prime minister warned voters just last month to brace for "painful decisions" on the economy.

"It is quite a bit of money, but he is a very big snake. We will not be constricted, nor will we scale back, in our dedication to preserve this historic national treasure".

Koshik - the elephant that speaks Korean language

Koshik

An Asian elephant called Koshik has astounded scientists with his Korean language skills.

Researchers report that the mammal has learnt to imitate human speech and can say five words in Korean: hello, no, sit down, lie down and good.

The zoo animal places the tip of his trunk into his mouth to transform his natural low rumble into a convincing impression of a human voice.

The study is published in the journal Current Biology.

Koshik's vocal abilities mean that elephants now join a growing list of animals that are able to mimic man, from parrots and mynah birds to more unusual animals such as sea lions or the recently reported case of a human-sounding beluga whale. The study's lead author Dr Angela Stoeger, from the University of Vienna in Austria, said she first came across Koshik after videos of the elephant, who belongs to Everland Zoo in South Korea, were posted on YouTube.

After making contact with the zoo, she went to South Korea to record the animal so she could study its unusual vocal talent.

Dr Stoeger said: "We asked native Korean speakers, who had never experienced the elephant before, to write down what they understood when we played back recordings from Koshik.

"We found a high agreement of the overall meaning."

Dr Stoeger and her colleagues found that Koshik's calls correlated to five Korean words: "annyeong" (hello); "anja" (sit down); "aniya" (no); "nuwo" (lie down) and "choah" (good).

"Human speech has two important aspects, one is pitch (how high or low a sound is) and one is timbre (the musical quality of a voice), and Koshik is matching both of these aspects," Dr Stoeger told the BBC.

Usually, elephants produce much deeper sounds, sometimes of such a low frequency that they are outside the range of human hearing, and these calls can boom many miles away.

While Koshik was capable of producing these more typical elephant noises, he needed the help of his trunk to morph these into something far more human. The researchers said this was behaviour they had not seen before.

How Nigerian policemen stripped motor cyclist naked in public

Photo culled from PUNCH NEWSPAPERS

Barely a few days after a middle aged woman, Queen Akindelenian swore an affidavit at the Ogun State High Court, Sango Ota, alleging that a Nigerian policeman identified as Mr Shadrach had forcefully inserted a metal object in her vagina during interrogation, Some policemen have again taken the enforcement of Law to the extreme on Wednesday as they allegedly beat an unidentified motor cyclist and stripped him naked in Akoka area of Lagos State.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the victim was caught while riding at the junction of University Road and St. Finbarr’s College Road in Akoka.
