Outrage in Russia after video showing a man and a toddler sharing cigarette is posted online

A shocking video has emerged of a father allowing a young boy to smoke his cigarette.
As the topless man repeatedly passes the cigarette back and forth to the toddler, a woman can be heard laughing from behind the camera.
The footage is just over two minutes long and is said to have been filmed in Russia.

The young boy is seen putting the cigarette in his mouth and making feeble drags on it several times as his father encourages him.
They boy laughs and claps his hands as he is yet again given the cigarette.
When the man playfully refuses him, the child makes crying noises, and soon points to the fresh packet on the table.
Astonishingly, the father gives the child a new cigarette and lights it for him.

Father of the year: The young boy inhales from the cigarette, clearly following in his shirtless father's footsteps

Pregnant woman shot in the belly, unborn child killed over Facebook post

Victim: The unidentified pregnant victim slumped into a chair after she was shot in the stomach. Her baby didn't survive

A pregnant Florida woman has lost her baby after she was shot in the stomach earlier this week, allegedly by a woman with whom she'd been feuding on Facebook.
Police were called the scene - in the 9100 block of Castle Boulevard in Jacksonville - about noon Wednesday after there was a report of an argument and a shooting.
Video after the shooting by neighbor Christopher Cash shows the victim slumped in a chair as neighbors rush to help her. It also shows the suspect, 35-year-old Virginia Wyche, being taken into custody.

Suspect: Virginia Wyche and the victim had a disagreement over Facebook, which led to a fight during which Wyche allegedly shot the victim in the stomach

The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital and survived. Her unborn baby was pronounced dead
'They were arguing out front, something about Facebook. I walked out and just heard a pop,' Cash told WTEV

Witnesses say the two women got into an argument on Facebook Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the victim went to Wyche's house to confront her about the disagreement.

Tragic: It's unclear what prompted the disagreement between Wyche (pictured) and the pregnant victim

The argument turned physical, and that's when Wyche allegedly shot the pregnant victim.
'I know the victim was definitely shot in the abdomen. That's the one gun shot that I know of. That's why the consideration and concern for the unborn child's health,' Jacksonville Sgt. Michael Paul told News4Jax.com before it was learned that the baby had died.
The suspect's mother, Lillian Jordan, told the station she is as confused as everyone else about what led up to the shooting at her home.
'My son called me and I was very disturbed about this because this is not the way I was raised, and they (were) not raised like this,' Jordan told reporters. 'Somebody had to provoke my child ... to do what she (did). I don't know if she was trying to defend herself, or if they (were) trying to jump on my child, I can't say.'
Wyche was booked into jail on one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Investigators say they will continue to look into whether the suspect shot the victim in self-defense.

100ft crucifix built in honour of John Paul II crushes a man to death 2 days before he is declared a saint

A young pilgrim has been crushed to death by a giant crucifix dedicated to Pope John Paul II.
The 100ft curved wooden cross collapsed during a ceremony in northern Italy days before the former Pope’s canonisation.
Marco Gusmini, 21, on a visit with other young Catholics to the Alpine village of Cevo, was killed instantly.

The 100ft high wooden cross, supporting a 90 stone statue of Jesus, created when John Paul II visited the area in 1998, fell suddenly following a few crunches
The 100ft high wooden cross, supporting a 90 stone statue of Jesus, created when John Paul II visited the area in 1998, fell suddenly following a few crunches
Mayor Silvio Citroni said the accident was ‘an unexplainable tragedy’. ‘A young life, so many hopes destroyed,’ he added.
‘The young people were making a snack for lunch and when they heard the crunching noises coming from the cross they fled in all directions. Unfortunately Marco ran in the wrong direction.
‘This is a place for pilgrimages and family visits. We never imagined that something like this could happen.’ Mr Citroni said maintenance work had been carried out on the crucifix last summer.

Mr Gusmini had been visiting the area with a church group from his home town of Bergamo, where - ironically - he lived on a street named after Pope John XXIII, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
The tragedy will inevitably be seen as an ill omen for Sunday’s celebration when John Paul II is to be declared a saint, along with Italian pope John XXIII.
Some 800,000 Catholic pilgrims from around the world are expected to journey to Rome to celebrate the double canonisation.

The curved cross, with a statue of Jesus weighing 1,320lb fixed to the top, was designed by sculptor Enrico Job in honour of John Paul II’s visit to Brescia, in Lombardy, in 1998. It was installed in a scenic location near Cevo in 2005.
The crucifix was anchored with cables intended to represent the scars of the Second World War.
This is not the first death caused by a falling crucifix in Italy.
In 2004 a 72-year-old woman was crushed to death by a 7ft metal crucifix in the southern town of Sant’Onofrio, Calabria.

How Kenyan man woke up in a mortuary 15 hours after he was pronounced dead ( VIDEO)

Morgue staff were given a nasty shock when a man who had been pronounced dead regained consciousness and began calling for help.
Kenyan hospital authorities have launched an investigation into why Paul Mutora, 24, was declared dead and his body taken to a morgue for embalming.

        Paul Mutora
When two mortuary attendants investigated noises coming from a side room and found what was supposed to be a corpse breathing, they "took to their heels screaming," a witness told Kenya's Star newspaper.
Mr Mutora had been rushed to the hospital in a critical condition after drinking insecticide in an apparent suicide attempt following an argument with his father.

Hospital superintendent Dr Joseph Mburu told television network KTN Kenya that the anti-poison drugs given to Mr Mutora upon arrival at the hospital may have wrongly given the impression he had died.
He said: "The effect of atropines can be sometimes to slowing of heart rate and most of the time it causes dilation of the pupils.

"These two observations are used to make a conclusion that someone has lost their life," he said.

Girl mauled by raccoon gets new ear implanted in her arm after surgery

The 12-year-old girl who was mauled by a raccoon as a baby is back at home after successfully undergoing surgery to create a new ear.
Charlotte Ponce of Spring Lake, Michigan was just three-months-old in 2002 when her young parents left her at home with the pet and she lost her right ear, nose and part of her lip in an attack.
Two years ago, Doctor Kongrit Chaiyasate repaired little Charlotte's nose and now he's focusing on giving her a new ear.
Going home: Charlotte Ponce, 12, of Spring Lake, Michigan was released from the hospital Monday after undergoing a seven-hour surgery to implant cartilage into her arm

Revolutionary surgery: The lung cartilage was molded into the shape of an ear and inserted into Charlotte's arm during the April 15 surgery

'The raccoon pretty much ate the right side of her face, all the way back to the ear,' Charlotte’s adoptive mom Sharon Ponce told ABCNews.com. 'Now, all she wants is to wear two earrings.'
That dream of pierced ears came closer to reality on April 15, when she underwent a seven-hour surgery to embed lung cartilage, shaped into an ear lobe, into her arm where it will continue to grow until June.
That's when Charlotte will go under the knife for hopefully the last time as Dr Chaiyaste attaches the cartilage to her ear.

But this last procedure will be the most complex yet, as it is claimed it has only been performed twice before.[
Dr Chaiyasate admitted the procedure is not easy and he will only have one chance to get it right, so he has been practicing on a potato.
Dr Chaiyasate, of Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, told WBIV: 'As plastic surgeons we need to think outside the box a little bit - what can we do to make a life long reconstruction for her.
'I've been practicing carving potato last weekend using this as a template. It's not easy.'

Mauled: Charlotte Ponce as a baby before and after the attack. Her adopted parents say she is still a happy girl
He said he could not guarantee success, but would try his best.
Charlotte's adopted mother Sharon Ponce said people from as far as Britain and Australia had contacted the family to tell them what an inspiration the girl has been.
She was just a newborn when her 18-year-old mother and 23-year-old father left her home alone with the pet.
The raccoon was thought to have escaped from its cage after a door was left open when food had been dropped in, and no one was there to save the baby when she was attacked.
Her great-aunt Sharon and great-uncle Tim only found out about the attack with horror when they watched that night's news bulletin.
They gained custody of Charlotte and her brother Marshall, who was then 15 months old, and they and their friends raised more than $10,000 to help pay for her trips in and out of hospital.
Sharon had to quit her job at a daycare center to look after Charlotte after doctors said she would need full time care.
Although ears have been made out of ribs before, the method of 'growing' the ear inside the forearm is extremely rare.

Remarkable: Charlotte with her adopted mother Sharon and Dr Kongkrit Chaiyasate after he built her a new nose in a 2012 operation. He said this next surgery will hopefully be the last major work she has done

Charlotte Ponce is seen at her home in Spring Lake
Attack: It has been a slow recovery for Charlotte, who lived for a decade without a reconstructed nose

It has to be done because Charlotte's ear was so badly damaged that the foundations of an ear structure no longer exist inside her head.
Charlotte previously had a prosthetic ear fitted but it was not an ideal solution and soon became infected and uncomfortable.
Yet despite the enormous damage, there is one miracle. Even before the extensive surgery which will grant her a new quality of life, Charlotte's hearing has been largely unaffected.

Tennessee woman arrested with loaded gun in her vagina

        Dallas Archer
19-year-old Tennessee woman had a loaded handgun hidden in her vagina when she was brought into jail yesterday afternoon following a collar for driving with a suspended license, police report. As Dallas Archer was being booked into the Kingsport jail, a female corrections officer alerted to an “unknown object” in the teenager’s crotch during a search.
The jailer and a female cop then accompanied Archer to a bathroom for further examination, a review that led to the recovery of a “North American Arms 22 LR revolver (loaded) which Ms. Dallas had concealed in her vagina,” according to a Kingsport Police Department report.
A subsequent check revealed that the five-shot mini-revolver--which is four inches in length--had been “stolen from an auto burglary in 2013.” The handgun, which police valued at $250, is owned by John Souther, a 70-year-old retired car salesman.
In a TSG interview, Souther said that the gun was taken from his 1994 Mustang, which was “ransacked” last year while parked in his Kingsport carport. Souther said that police told him that the revolver had been recovered, but offered no further details. When told where the gun had been stashed, Souther said, “Oh, gosh.” He noted that he would eventually like “the little fellow” returned, but added that the weapon would require “a bath in bleach.”
Archer, seen in the above mug shot, was charged with gun possession and introducing contraband into a penal facility. According to a jail official, Archer was released from custody after posting $6000 bond.
It will be recalled that on July 8, 2013, the Oklahoma woman, Christie Dawn Harris, 28, who had a loaded handgun concealed in her vagina when she was arrested on a drug charge was sentenced to 25 years in state prison
                                                              Christie Dawn Harris
Harris, pictured above, was arrested in March after a drug dog alerted to a vehicle in which she and another woman were seated (the car was parked outside a closed restaurant at 3:45 AM). A subsequent search of the Toyota Yaris turned up meth, drug paraphernalia, a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and a loaded magazine.
While being transported to jail, Harris told a cop “several times that she needed to go to the bathroom,” according to an Ada Police Department report.
During processing at the jail, Harris balked when directed to lower her underwear so that a female officer could check for contraband. She “advised that she was on her period and did not want to,” cops noted.
After Harris complied with police, Officer Kathy Unbewust reported, “I observed at that time a wooden and metal item sticking out from her vagina area.” Unbewust then “pulled the item from her vagina, and found it to be a 5 shot revolver with rounds in the chamber.”
The handgun, which was disassembled by cops, is seen in the above left evidence photo.
Investigators subsequently identified the weapon as a Freedom Arms .22-caliber handgun, which was loaded with three live rounds and one spent shell. The police report notes that “gun located in suspect vagina.

        Mark Gregory Valadez
Similarly on September 3, 2013, a man had a loaded firearm hidden inside his rectum when he was booked into an Oklahoma jail police reported.
Arrested on a minor charge on a Sunday morning, Mark Gregory Valadez was transported to an Oklahoma City jail, where he was only subjected to a pat-down search (and not made to go through a metal detector).
As a result of the lax screening, investigators allege, Valadez, 33, got into the lockup with a Derringer pistol inside his body cavity. The concealed weapon, which contained a single round, is seen in an Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office evidence photo.
Investigators learned that Valadez, who lives in Wichita, Kansas, was scrutinized after he blabbed to other inmates that he had smuggled a weapon into the jail.
A cavity search of Valadez about 16 hours after he was incarcerated--yielded the loaded gun. The discovery also resulted in the filing of a felony charge accusing Valadez, seen in the above mug shot, of possessing contraband in a penal institution.
Following the weapon’s discovery, Valadez was transported to a local hospital for treatment since he was suffering from the adverse impact of placing a Derringer inside his body.

Church leader on the run for sexual abuse of 10 underaged girls

'Brainwashed': Young women gather around Victor A. Barnard, the leader of an alleged cult who is wanted for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting the girls, whom he called his 'Maidens'
A minister of a sect who claimed he was 'Christ in the flesh' handpicked 10 young girls and forced them to have sex with him for nearly a decade, two of his alleged victims have said.
Victor A. Barnard, 52, is on the run after authorities in Pine County, Minnesota announced that he faces 59 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving the two women - although he could face more if other alleged victims come forward.
A nationwide warrant was issued on April 11 but authorities believe followers of his sect, the River Road Fellowship, may be hiding him in Washington state.
After enduring years of abuse, Lindsey Tornambe escaped the group of 140 followers and alerted authorities to the girls' plight. Another former cult-member, Jess Schweiss, told authorities her story.
The women say they were just 12 and 13 when, with their parents permission, they went to live with Barnard as part of a group of 10 women known as the Maidens, Fox9 reported.
The Maidens, aged between 12 and 24, were first-born daughters handed over to Bernard and forced to have sex with him anywhere between once and five times a month over a decade.

He said that Jesus and King Solomon had many women followers, so 'God's word' meant that it was normal for him to have sex with them.
'I still had a conscience, I knew it was wrong,' Schweiss, who marked every sexual encounter with Barnard with an 'x' on a calendar, told Fox.
Her father told authorities that he 'felt pressured to not say anything' about the sexual activity, according to the criminal complaint.
Brave: Lindsey Tornambe said her parents took her to Barnard's home when she was 13 and she was left there for nearly a decade. She contacted authorities in 2012 about the abuse

'I don't look at them as my parents anymore,' she said. 'They weren't the parents I wanted or needed. My parents, the people I grew up with as a child, don't exist anymore.'
Speaking with the Star Tribune, Tornambe said she still remembers sitting in the congregation with her parents in 2000 when she was called by Bernard to a 'position of honor'.
After her parents dutifully left her at his ranch, she said Bernard began talking to her about sex and grew angry when she said she did not understand the terms he was using.
He had sex with her anyway and urged her not to tell anyone, she said. She added that her parents rarely came to visit, even though they lived just five miles away.

She left his cabin when she was 15 but after her parents berated her with their disappointment and Bernard spoke to her about damnation, she reluctantly returned.
'I was really scared, and I didn’t know what receiving damnation from God would be like,' she said. 'I ended up just staying.'
But a few years later, she left permanently and went to live with her parents, who had moved to Pennsylvania. They still placed Bernard's photographs around their home.
When she told her parents about the abuse, her mother 'did not want to hear it', the criminal complaint notes.
Tornambe eventually became a nanny, but when she heard cousins happily talking about their lives at a New Year's party in 2012, she realized Bernard had robbed her of hers and she called police.

Likewise, Schweiss split from the group and moved to Wisconsin in September 2009, but she said she attempted suicide in 2011. When her brother confronted her, she told him about the abuse.
'I feel bad in one sense that I am taking Victor's life away from him by putting him behind bars, but then again, he took my life away from me, which I should have had,' she said. 'So, I feel that - for lack of better words - I think I'm even.'
Tornambe adeed: 'I definitely don't want Victor hurting anyone else.'
Pine County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Blackwell said that the 59 counts only relate to the claims by the two women and that authorities are hopeful more will come forward.
When asked if he believed there were more, he said: 'I don’t know how we couldn't think that.'

Nigerian Biochemist who stabbed his mother to death is acquitted of murder

From left to right, Mr Emmanuel Kalejaiye  and  his mother Mrs Tolu Kalejaiya
A Nigerian-born graduate of Biochemistry from Essex University, Mr Emmanuel Kalejaiye, 21, who stabbed his mother to death last September is found not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, due to mental health issues.
The verdict came following a two-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.
Emmanuel Kalejaiye inflicted more than 40 stab wounds on his mother Tolu Kalejaiya's upper body, when he turned the knife on her at their Wickford home last September.
The prosecution alleged Kalejaiye had planned to commit the 'perfect murder', by killing the 44-year-old before impersonating her to allow himself precious time to dispose of her body.
But a jury of seven men and five women found the Essex University student not guilty of murder.
Judge Christopher Ball QC said: 'The evidence shows the defendant is capable of a very deliberate and calculated act of supreme violence.
'If as a paranoid schizophrenic he is capable of this, he may present a very significant danger to anyone who upsets him for many years to come.
'I am keen to see the extent to which paranoid schizophrenia will underscore the danger he poses to others in the future to assess a proper sentence.'
Judge Ball requested a full psychiatric report into the danger Kalejaiye could be to the public ahead of sentencing in June.
The court heard Kalejaiye had written out a detailed plan including notes on how to walk in high heels and had receipts for pink Primark women’s clothing.
Police found a bloodied pink hoodie and pink trousers, which Kalejaiye had bought from Primark a month earlier, as well as scraps of paper detailing an alleged murder plot.
The jury heard how Kalejaiye, who was born in Nigeria but moved to England as a small boy, stabbed his mother to death on the morning of September 26 last year.
Receipts found at the house showed the murder weapon came from a knife block bought by Kalejaiye at Lidl just a month before the brutal stabbing.

Victim: Kalejaiye inflicted more than 40 stab wounds on his 44-year-old mother's (pictured) body
Mrs Kalejaiye, who worked as an accountant for Camden Council, suffered more than 40 stab wounds to her head, face, neck, upper limbs and hands during the frenzied knife attack.
She called boyfriend, Leo Shogunle, on her phone during the attack at around 7.30am - although he only received the message when he awoke later that morning.
Kalejaiye sat head in hands as the jury was played a disturbing three-minute voicemail in which the mother-of-two can be heard screaming 'don’t stab me, don’t stab me - you’re a demon', before the message fell chillingly silent.
Mr Shogunle raced to the home shortly after 10am on the morning of the attack after hearing the message and let himself in using a spare key.
He was confronted by the bloodied body of his lover lying on the kitchen floor and Kalejaiye, who said his mother had been attacked before fleeing the scene.
Kalejaiye was later caught on CCTV at around 10.30am calmly buying a can of coke and a pack of Maryland cookies at a local post office before handing himself in to police.
During police interview, he signed a confession stating: 'I admit killing my mother this morning by stabbing her.
'I did this because she subjected me to a lifetime of physical and mental abuse.
'She used the Bible to rationalise what she did to me. I believe she manipulated and brainwashed me.
'I have been very depressed for a long time. I have tried to overcome it but I couldn’t take it anymore.'
Kalejaiye later changed his story saying a gang of masked men burst into his home, forced him to stab his mum then threatened him with further violence if he told police.
He told the court a gang of five white, balaclava-clad men targeted him in a suspected racist attack.
The university student went onto claim the mystery men had forced him to dress up in the ‘ill-fitting’ pink clothing and pink flip flops to move his mother’s Mercedes car - a move the prosecution claimed had been an attempt fool neighbours into thinking his mother had driven to work.
Evidence from an expert psychiatrist stated Kalejaiye had been suffering from severe depression and paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the attack.
The court heard how fellow students at Essex University, where Kalejaiye had studied biochemistry, found him ‘weird and paranoid’.

CASE OF CROSS-DRESSING KILLER ECHOES NORMAN BATES CHARACTER

The case of Emmanuel Kalejaiye echoes that of the ficitional character Norman Bates, the protagonist of the novel Psycho by Robert Bloch.
Based on real-life murderer Ed Gein, Bates is a fat, middle-aged drunk who has an unnaturally close relationship with his mother.
Bates runs the motel his mother owns. But Mother is insane; and when she suspects her son of desiring an attractive young guest, she sneaks into the girl's room and stabs her to death as she showers.
The case of Emmanuel Kalejaiye bears a resemblance to the character Norman Bates from the film Psycho
Norman covers up the murder; but Mother soon kills a private investigator hired to find the girl.
During the course of the novel, which was adapted into Aldred Hitchcock's film Psycho in 1960 and again in 2000 starring Christian Bale, the reader learns 'Mother' is in fact Bates himself, who developed a split personality after murdering his real mother and her lover in a fit of jealously.
Unable to bear the guilt he adopted her personality to try and convince himself that she was still alive.
