Imo High Court declares Women’s Right of Inheritance to father’s properties

An Imo State High Court sitting in Aboh Mbaise LGA has declared that a woman is entitled by law to inherit her father’s estate.

Mrs Regina Ihemadu (Nee Nwimo) is the only surviving child of her late father, Mr Imo Ebiringa of Umuelagwa Onitcha in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. But, her uncles attempted to share her father's estate amongst themselves and had partly succeeded.

The court presided by Justice Ijeoma Agugua has now ruled in Mrs Ihemadu's favour, stating that she has the right to inherit her father's estate. Mrs Ihemadu’s uncles were also fined 7 million Naira for sharing her father’s estate amongst themselves soon after her father’s death and without her consent.

In a suit No. HAM/13/2017 filed by Emperor N. Iwuala being the counsel to Mrs Ihemadu against her uncles including Sunday Uwazie and all members of the Ebiringa family, she claimed in the said suit that her father and direct relations died and soon after their death, her uncles shared her inheritance amongst themselves and sold same to members of the public without her consent.

Reacting to the judgment, Barr. Iwuala said that the judgment is very apt and flows from the constitutional right against discrimination based on sex stating that the judgment is only a restatement of the earlier judgment of the Supreme Court in the celebrated Ukeje case.

Barr. Iwuala said:
Quote
With this, it is now clear that the age-long custom of disinheriting female children (both married and unmarried) from sharing in their father’s property and estate is now not only null and void

(VIDEO) IPOB disrupts mass in Abia as worshipers prayed for 2019 elections

There was commotion during mass last Sunday at Christ the King Cathedral, (CKC) in Aba, Abia state after members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) vehemently opposed a prayer for the peaceful election in 2019. The IPOB members went berserk after the prayer request by the Reverend Father.

WATCH VIDEO HERE -

The IPOB members who opposed the prayer said that there will be no election in Igbo land as stated by their leader Nnamdi Kanu – till referendum is conducted as they raised the group’s (IPOB) flag and also American flags while causing commotion during the service. Nnamdi Kanu who recently resurfaced in Israel announced in a broadcast that there would be no election in South-East in 2019.  Meanwhile, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has urged Igbos to disregard the call for the boycott of the election by Nnamdi Kanu describing it as `unrealistic’. The Leader of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri, Imo state capital. Uwazurike said such call was laughable because he did not have control of election in Nigeria, pointing out that his intention was to incite his members into a venture that could lead to the death of innocent Igbo’s again. Nnamdi Kanu also said he would return soon to Nigeria to revive the agitation for Biafra independence. His whereabouts had been unknown since July when the military launched Operation Python Dance to check activities of IPOB.

Nigerian agencies alerted over new Chinese drugs made from dead babies

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) as well as NAFDAC and Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has been placed on red alert by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) over a Chinese drug made with human flesh and organs. Investigations revealed that the capsules were filled with powdered flesh from dead babies.

They were made in North Eastern China from babies whose bodies were chopped into small pieces and dried on stoves before being turned into powder.

Thousands of the drugs were first confiscated in South Korea in 2012.

The South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has siezed 2,751 Chinese drugs/capsules containing remains from foetuses, infants and flesh imported into the country by Chinese nationals.

The document, dated October 12, 2018, noted that the manufacturers claimed that the drugs/capsules could boost stamina, cure cancer, diabetes and some other diseases, and were smuggled in suitcases and through international mail.

The agency revealed that the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety indicated that 18.7 billion viruses, including hepatitis B virus, were found the capsules.

It stressed that the making of the human remain drugs and consuming them are crimes against humanity, which can also lead to serious health challenges.

NIA explained that it was monitoring the situation for detailed information

Rastafarians jubilate as S/ Africa legalizes marijuana smoking

South Africa's highest court has legalized smoking and growing of marijuana at home.
There were scenes of jubilation in court on Tuesday as the judgment was handed down. One man screamed "Babylon" while Rastafarian clapped and screamed : "We are free", others shouted: "After thousands of years. Rastafarai.... We are free!!!!"
The Constitutional Court has found that the ban on the private use and cultivation of marijuana (dagga) is unconstitutional, according to TimesLive South Africa. The unanimous judgment decriminalizes adults smoking marijuana at home and growing enough marijuana for personal consumption. But the highest court in the land said clearly marijuana was not allowed to be smoked publicly. Dealing is still illegal.

The Constitutional Court was confirming the 2017 Western Cape high court judgment by Judge Dennis Davis that found a ban on the use of dagga at home was against the constitutional right to privacy.

Rastafarian Garreth Prince and Dagga Party leader Jeremy Acton brought the case. Multiple government departments appealed and wanted dagga use at home to remain criminalized. The court accepted medical studies that showed alcohol caused more harm than dagga and that there was little data to show that criminalizing dagga reduced harmful use.

Parliament has two years to amend the relevant laws. In the meantime‚ the court specified it has granted interim relief that allows personal use at home.

Justice Raymond Zondo said he took into account international law allowing the private use of dagga at home.
Quote
"We are free‚" shouted one man. "After thousands of years. Rastafari... We are free!"

South Africa's "dagga couple" – Jules Stobbs‚ 59‚ and Myrtle Clarke‚ 51, who have spent years fighting to legalize the use of dagga for adults – posed for a celebratory photograph.

The couple‚ who flew to Johannesburg for the judgment‚ had on Monday evening urged dagga users in Port Elizabeth to "puff their very last illegal joint" ahead of the landmark ruling. They were friends of the court in this matter.

"Garreth Prince‚ you defeated Goliath‚" screamed a man repeatedly after the ruling.

The ruling does not allow dagga users to sell it to their friends.

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu’s family denied visa by Switzerland despite UN invitation

The family of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has condemned the Embassy of Switzerland in Abuja for allegedly denying travelling visa to members of the family invited by the United Nations to the 116th United Nations Human Rights Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances.
According to Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, the family members were invited by UN as key witnesses of the alleged mass murder committed by the Nigerian security operatives when the family compound was invaded on September 14, 2017, during the Operation Python Dance ll conducted by the Nigerian Army.
Emmanuel Kanu said apart from the family members, “key IPOB members who witnessed the genocide at Afaraukwu were also denied visas.” He accused the Embassy of “conspiracy, collusion and unholy dealings with Abuja to frustrate the family and help the Nigerian state escape punishment.”
Kanu further disclosed that some Amazonians fleeing persecutions in the Camerouns were equally denied visa by the Swiss Embassy, alleging that it was a clear indication that the Embassy was colluding with “oppressive administrations to suppress freedom fighters.”
He lamented what he called bad faith of the Swiss Embassy in constituting itself to an impediment to the family’s bid to get justice over the unprovoked invasion of the family house and the disappearance of their beloved ones including his parents, Eze Israel Kanu, the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu community and his wife, Lolo Sally Kanu.
Quote
“Some of our family members who were invited by the United Nations could not understand why they should be denied visas. Some Amazonians who fled Cameroon to Nigeria who were also invited to the United Nations by this same working group were also denied visas.
“The reason for the invitation is to state categorically as eye witnesses, to the United Nations, what happened on the 14th of September 2017, when the Nigerian Army illegally invaded the home of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader.
“For the fact that you house the world body does not give you the right to deny victims and key eyewitnesses of torture and genocide visas even when the same world body invited them,”
Kanu lamented.
He therefore appealed to the UN as well as the United States of America and other human rights promoting nations to prevail on the Swiss Government to change their decision and issue visas to the invitees so that the UN could get first hand information from them.

Convicted ex-gov, Joshua Dariye, buys APC form from Kuje Prisons

Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye, who is serving 14 years jail sentence at Kuje prisons, has reportedly purchased APC nomination form from prison.
According to reports, Joshua Dariye’s personal assistant, Itauna Dinka, obtained the nomination form for Dariye’s re-election on Friday, September 7.
The senator was on 12 June sentenced to 16 years in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Justice Adebukola Banjoko, who gave the ruling, held that the former governor would serve a two-year and a 14-year jail terms concurrently but did not give him an option of a fine.
The EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) charged Dariye with money laundering in 2007. He was accused of diverting N1.126bn from the Plateau government’s ecological funds through an account, Ebenezer Reitner Ventures, an unregistered company, he operated.
In her ruling, Justice Banjoko had said:
Quote
“I can’t imagine a brazen act of looting as in this case.”
“I welled up while reading (the judgement) thinking of the victims, it is a litany of woes. They were adults making rational choices. More importantly, I think what touches me the most, your family, they are victims.
“Having found the defendant guilty of these counts of criminal breach trust and criminal appropriation, the court sentences you to two years for criminal breach of trust and 14 years for criminal appropriation.”

Photos of the APC nomination form Joshua Dariye allegedly purchased were shared online by Facebook user Monday Shadrach Kopmut:

“Osun state does not have my kind of money”, says Bola Tinubu (Video)

Former governor of Lagos state and APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, has told residents of Oyo state that they do not have the kind of money that would impress him.
Tinubu said this while reacting to claims that he was imposing the APC governorship candidate, Gboyega Oyetola on the state so he can embezzle the state resources when Oyetola is sworn into office.
Speaking during a visit to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, over the weekend, Tinubu said Oyetola, the APC candidate was reliable. Speaking in Yoruba dialect, Tinubu said
“Oyetola is a reliable person. He may be quiet, but the sense he has… he is an encyclopedia of finance. He will not take a bribe; he will not steal your money. If he is looking for money, he would have stayed back in Lagos. Osun doesn’t have Oyetola’s kind of money. I’m not abusing the state. I asked those saying that I’m trying to plant Oyetola in Osun, that how much does Osun have? Osun doesn’t have my kind of money.” he said

Oyo state governorship election is slated for September 22nd.

Man cuts off nose, ears and tattoos eyes to achieve skeletal image

A Colombian man, Hincapié Ramírez, has had his nose cut off, ears mutilated and eyes tattooed on his face so his head can look like a skull.
Ramírez has been undergoing extreme surgical procedures to make his face look like a skeleton for the last two years.
The 22-year-old says he had been fascinated by skulls ever since he was a child, but only started making his face look like a skeleton after his mother's death because she did not approve of the extreme body modification.
During the painful procedures Kalaca had the lower half of his nose removed and most of his ear lobes cut off.
After splitting his tongue in half and tattooing it to a blue-grey colour, he then had large black eye-sockets tattooed around his eyes.
Large teeth and even the hollow space between the mandible and maxilla was then shaded in ink around his mouth.
He also shaved his hair into a mow-hawk style to show off his head tattoos.
Kalaca Skull was the first person in Colombia to voluntarily have his nose and ears mutilated, a decision that attracted both the attention of the media as well as a lot of criticism from the general public.
One of the reasons Kalaca says he chose to make himself look like a skull was that it is a look we 'all share underneath our skin and in death', he told Rio Noticias website in Colombia.
Kalaca admits his unusual appearance makes a lot of people uncomfortable and some even cross the street when they see him so they don't have to pass him face-to-face.
Earlier this month, one of the most famous men to tattoo himself towards looking like an unearthly creature took his own life.
Tattooed model Zombie boy, a friend of singer Lady Ga Ga, killed himself by jumping from the 4th floor balcony of his Montreal apartment, on August 1.
Canadian Rick Genest, 32, commited suicide in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal at 5pm Wednesday, but paramedics were unable to revive him, law enforcement sources told TMZ.
His manager Karim Leduc said his family believes it was a tragic accident and he fell, as he would lean back on the railing while smoking. They also say they believe he would have left a suicide note had it been intentional.
However, police ruled the death of Zombie Boy who appeared in the 2011 video for 'Born This Way' as a suicide.
Kalaca Skull, real name Eric Yeiner Hincapié Ramírez, before his extreme surgeries to his nose and ears completed his skull makeover

I’ll give N50m to any Owerri man who wins APC primaries, says Anozie

A frontline politician in Imo state, Barrister Chima Anozie, has offered the sum of N50 million naira as a gesture of support to any governorship aspirant from Owerri zone who wins the forth-coming APC governorship primary election on merit. In addition, he said he will brand a total of 21 buses to be used by the candidate for his election campaign.
He made this disclosure during an interactive session with some online media practitioners in Oweri last Thursday. According to him, “it is injustice not to support an Owerri man to emerge as the next governor of Imo state. If I am convinced by the entire Owerri zone that some other aspirant is better than me, I will support the aspirant with 50 million naira and brand 21 buses for him to use for his election campaign”.
Speaking during the session, Anozie who is contesting for the governorship of Imo state under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), decried the state of infrastructure in Imo especially in the rural areas. He said if the roads in those areas are put in good condition, it will help decongest the state capital because many people who are presently living in the municipal will gladly relocate to the rural areas which are less than15 minutes drive from the township.
Speaking further, he said the agricultural potentials of Imo state has not been fully harnessed, adding that he will ensure that rice is produced at Ishinweke in Ihitte-Uboma and in Ngor-Okpala and commence a project called ‘Operation Feed Your Family’. Anozie said he will ensure that the youths learn a trade while bursary will be paid the intelligent and hardworking students in the institutions of learning. According to him, he will revive and equip the Government Technical College (GTC) Owerri and make it productive.

Speaking further, he said he will roll out a special housing scheme whereby the state government will build houses for civil servants and deduct 10% of their salaries every month until the monetary value of the houses are fully paid.
Speaking further, Anozie said he will not commence any new project when he becomes governor until all the abandoned and viable projects initiated by his predecessors are complete, adding that he will probe any government official who borrowed money on behalf of Imo state to do a non-existent project. He vowed to tackle corruption, consumption of illicit drugs and cultism.
Anozie who is fondly called ‘Home Base’ by his supporters, hails from Orji in Uratta, Owerri-North LGA of Imo state. He read Civil Engineering at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu after which he read Law at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC). He later read Estate Management at Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri. He was the General Manager of Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA). In 2003, he contested for the Imo state House of Assembly under the platform of APP.

OMPAN condemns detention of journalist, Samuel Ogundipe, by police

Ogundipe

The  Online media practitioners association of Nigeria (OMPAN) in totality have condemns the continued detention of Premium Times reporter, Samuel Ogundipe who was arrested on  Wednesday by SARs now (FSARs) for carrying out his official duties.
Below is the press release signed by the PRO of OMPAN,  Ismaila Yahaya Kana and made available to globalnewsalerts.
“Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria is shocked at the arrest of Samuel Ogundipe of PremiumTimes, and condemns strongly, his continued detention by the Nigerian police for refusing to give up his sources.
OMPAN joins other well meaning local and international organization to call for his immediate and unconditional release as well as unfreezing of his account.
OMPAN wonders why only Samuel Ogundipe was singled out for this unlawful, evil and undemocratic arrest when so many online and print media houses carried the story in question.
It is very strange that in a country that claims to be practicing democracy, a member of the fourth realm can be arrested and detained by the police without provocation.
OMPAN wants to stress that Mr Samuel Ogundipe was well within his rights to report the said letter and should not be held responsible for the inability of the Nigerian Police to manage its confidentiality or put a tight lid on all the sensitive documents it wants to keep away from the public.
The fact that Mr Samuel Ogundipe was exercising his constitutionally protected right as a journalist can never be overemphasized and not even the Nigerian police has the power to take that away from him.
OMPAN notes with chagrin that Nigeria is fast becoming a Banana republic because of the high handedness of the police and other security agencies and this is not acceptable in a democratic dispensation.
OMPAN wants to state very clearly that Nigerians can no longer tolerate this Military Junta style that the police is adopting to silence reporters and starting with the immediate and unconditional release of Samuel Ogundipe, the police must desist from further embarrassing Nigeria in the eye of the international community.
The Nigerian police has already inflicted a great deal of pain on innocent and law abiding Nigerians already and this must stop!
OMPAN recalls how SARS officers arrested, molested and compelled its members in Owerri to pay a huge bribe before matching them to an ATM to withdraw the bribe money or risk being implicated to a crime. But for the resourcefulness of the Journalists in procuring incontrovertible pictorial evidence of that event, they probably would have been held in similar fashion as Samuel Ogundipe.
This is unacceptable. The police must as a matter urgency retrace its footsteps and toe the path of civility and service to humanity as is commensurate with their profession the world over.”

Rather than explain the unjust detention of the journalist amidst global calls for his release, however, the police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, said he is not aware of the details of the arrest.
Mr Moshood, who spoke when asked by a presenter on AIT programme, Kakaaki, however, said no Nigerian is beyond being arrested by the police when an investigation is being carried out.
“I am not aware of the details of the matter. But what I can say is that any Nigerian, whether a journalist or any member of the public can be invited by an investigating officer to come around so that he or she can clear themselves of any allegations against them. Since you are telling me now, I will find out exactly what is happening,” Mr Moshood said.

Officials at the police headquarters told PREMIUM TIMES that the directive to detain the journalist came directly from the Inspector General of Police who is said to be angry at this newspaper’s critical reporting of his activities.
Many Nigerians, activists, lawyers and groups have called for the unconditional and immediate release of the reporter who is still in detention.

Bishop Oyedepo tells Buhari to "resign and get out of office"

Bishop David Oyedepo, has called on President Buhari to resign  from office.

In a YouTube video posted by the church’s official page, the cleric who is also the General Overseer  of the Living Faith Church Worldwide,  made this call on Sunday at its headquarters in Ota, Ogun State.

With this development, Oyedepo has joined other notable clerics – including the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church, Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan; and a former Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie – who have asked Buhari to quit his position over failure to secure the lives of Nigerians.

The cleric told his congregation that although he was not partisan, he would not be alive and not talk about the massacre of Nigerians, especially in the Middle Belt, by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Speaking on the theme, “Enough is enough,” he said,

“When I was talking in 2015, people were saying my own was too much, now everybody can see what’s happening. What has moved forward in anybody’s life? You don’t know it’s war. Why are they attacking the Christian communities? Why has nobody been arrested? I can tell you this, the authorities and the powers that be are behind them.

“I will never be partisan; Jesus got me out of it in 1984. But I will not be alive to see innocent people massacred.

“We must wake up and push this evil back. Not one of those so-called herdsmen – they are jihadists – has been brought to book till date. Herdsmen don’t shoot; they have been here all along. They are just taking cover under the herdsmen to assault innocent citizens. They wake up in the night and slice innocent children to pieces. Yet, you have a government in place. What!

“The most honourable thing for any non-performing leader to do is to resign. The most honourable thing is to resign. That’s my own for Mr President. Resign! Get out of office! Even our Islamic friends in the North are calling on him (Buhari) to resign. Because that’s the noblest thing to do. Or are we going to look at one system destroy a whole nation?”

Oyedepo also warned Nigerians against the ceding of land to the Fulani herdsmen for ranching, as proposed by the Federal Government.

He said,

“I’m going to say this and I’m not going to be tired. This (Nigeria) will never be a Fulani republic. That is not our terms of agreement. It will remain a secular nation till Jesus returns. It’s not just (about) land, it’s (about) heritage.

“Forever, I stand on the fact that no government has the authority to collect land from those who own it and transfer it to another person because on the other side (presumably the north), it never happens.”
